Is There Really a Black Jack Strategy?

Most everyday people tend to consider casino gaming as a hobby of nothing more than pure, dumb luck. A risky business, they say, one completely out of control of the player him- or herself. And most shy away from the game, on account of this fear. However, whether or not one grew up with this deeply ingrained skepticism, there are small ways in which one can maximize one’s returns in any casino game, and especially in Blackjack. Statistical studies have even been done on various casino games, and published in mathematical journals, not to mention other publications specifically for casino gaming enthusiasts.

Basic Black Jack Strategy

With Blackjack, it’s all about probability and odds. In a standard deck of 52 playing cards, the odds of drawing a card of most of the possible numerical values is 4 out of 52. Cards with a value of ten are the exception, since in Blackjack not only the 10s but also the face cards command values of ten. Therefore, the probability of drawing a ten – in any incarnation – is not 4 out of 52, but rather 16 out of 52. The other important thing to remember when playing Black jack is that you as the player have far more freedom of movement, as it were, than does the dealer. With any of up to 16, the dealer is forced by the rules of the game to hit. With anything 17 or over, the dealer must stand. You, however, as the player, are not constrained by these rules, and this is something to always remember and factor in when playing Black jack.

Mathematicians hard at work have created charts and tables of Blackjack probabilities and possibilities. To use these tables, one must keep in mind that the player’s possible hands run along one side of the table, while the dealer’s possible hands run across the top. Find the point in which the two lines intersect, and you will know how to play your hand. You may not win every single play this way, but it may greatly increase your chances in the long run.

Playing Strategically for Best Black Jack Results

Considering all of this, you now know that Black jack is not simply a game of luck; it is also a game in which mathematics and strategy do count for something. So the next time you enter a game, keep this in mind - and see how it helps.
