The Black Jack Hall of Fame

The Blackjack Hall of Fame is an organization which honors those people who have been contributors and achievers to and of the game of blackjack. It came into being in 2002 and now has 13 members.

The Establishment of the Blackjack Hall of Fame

The idea for a Blackjack Hall of Fame originated in 2002 when a group of professional black jack players put up 21 (blackjack?) names for consideration. The voting was done by the group with help from the public at large via the internet. The finalists were voted on in January 2003 at the Blackjack Ball. This Ball is an exclusive annual event for the best blackjack players in the world. By the end of the evening seven of the 21 nominees had been elected.

Since that time, new members have been selected annually at the Blackjack Ball. Two were added in 2004 and two more in 2005. Then a new ruling was made that only one new member a year can be added to the Hall of Fame.

Criteria for Membership in the Black Jack Hall of Fame

Some of the elected are known for their contributions to the theoretical aspects of black jack odds, strategy, card-counting and shuffle tracking. Others were chosen for helping to bring black jack to the general public and others for their actual achievements in the real world of casino black jack tables.

It is a great idea and, of course, a big incentive for the best black jack players.

The Barona Casino Blackjack Hall of Fame

The real physically grounded Blackjack Hall of Fame is located in the Barona Casino in southern California. There you can find a plaque on the wall in honor of every member with his photo and accomplishments listed. There is also a blackjack museum there showing marked cards, cheating devices and other interesting paraphernalia. It is an interesting place to visit if you are a blackjack buff.
