How Does Black jack Card Counting Work?

You know that card counting helps you keep track of the cards, but how does that translate into a winning game of Black jack? Well, if you can figure out what cards are left in the deck, you'll have a better idea of what your chances are of winning. To put it simply, if you really need an Ace, but you know that all of the Aces have been played, you can safely assume that you won't win the game.
But how does this information help you win? It doesn't, really. Card counting just gives players the opportunity to bet high when they think the odds are in their favor, and low when the odds are with the house.
The best thing about most card counting methods, is that they are simple to learn and easy to implement. One of the most common techniques is called the Hi-Lo Count. Someone using this technique would assign point values to every card. For example:
For cards 2-6 - add 1 point,
For cards 7-9 - add 0 points,
For any card equal to 10 - subtract 1 point.
As the total point count goes up and down, the player can better determine whether to raise or lower his bet.

Unfortunately for many would be card counters, casinos have done everything in their power to deter players from using this method while making it more difficult to implement. The first step was to increase the number of decks used per game, and to shuffle the cards more frequently. This change made keeping track of cards much more difficult, but still possible. And while card counting is still a perfectly legal method of strategy in most courts of law, casinos have the ability to ask anyone to leave the floor for any reason whatsoever. That means that if they catch you card counting, you may be politely escorted to the exit.
That doesn't mean that card counting isn't a useful Black jack strategy today. Many techniques have been recently introduced which help compensate for the new rules at casino Black jack tables.
